Pomeranian Lion Cut
The Pomeranian lion cut is a very interesting haircut for this lively dog. As the name implies, the cut involves trimming and shaving the hair so that this little tiny dog resembles a lion. As you can imagine, seeing a Pom with a lion cut can be very amusing and interesting.
This grooming cut involves shaving the back half of the dog down very short. The tail is left as a fluffy plume - sometimes just then end is fluffed and the rest is shaved. There is also a pouff of hair left around the ankles sort of like a poodle show cut.
With this type of cut, the front of the dog is left with longer hair - about from the front shoulders forward just like a lions mane. The chest and facial area are left full and the legs can be shaved down or let with a fringe cut of hair.

I used to have the Pomeranian lion cut done on my Pom and it was a very nice cut for the dog. Of course you will attract a bit of attention with your miniature lion of you decide to get this cut for your Pomeranian! It’s easy enough to ask your groomer to do and most should be familiar with it - if you don’t like it just remember that it will always grow out!
As you can imagine, not every dog breed can pull this one off. It is due to the dense undercoat that the Pomeranian is well suited for this type of a haircut. Something with sleek hair like a Yorkie wouldn’t look right in it.
If you are worried that the Pomeranian lion cut might not be so great for the overall health of your dogs coat, then you need not worry. I was worried about this too - actually I had heard that shaving the dog was very bad for it but I asked my Vet and she said that simply was not true and giving a dog a close cut was not detrimental in any way. You can always check with your Vet if you are worried about any skin or coat health ramifications.
