Pomeranian Dog Training

Pomeranian dog training is a vital part of making sure that your Pom is the perfect pet.

Pomeranians are loving and loyal companions who make great watch dogs and are one of the most intelligent of the small breeds. As with any pet, proper training is essential or you will soon find that your Pom is running the show!

Pomeranians are very intelligent so training should be easy. My Pom has been known to learn a new trick in about 10 minutes and yours is probably just as smart. Even though they are eager to please, you must let them know who is boss or they can become quite demanding.

One important aspect to Pomeranian dog training, at least for my dog, is to stop them from getting too yappy. These dogs can be great watch dogs and their bark is strong, but you need to train them to bark a couple of times when they hear someone out side and then stop. My dog will keep on yapping until I go over and pick her up or give a treat. I still haven't figured out how to stop her from doing that! You also need to be firm with them and let them know that they can't always get what they want just by barking - believe me they can become little tyrants if they think they can get a treat or a spot on your lap every time they bark!

Dog training is not as cut and dried as you may think. There are certain techniques and tactics that are the most effective. Most experts agree that negative reinforcement does not work so you may need to learn how to best train your Pom.
