First of all be sure to get an updated schedule from your vet with their holiday hours and emergency contacts should the need arise.
When decorating your home, think about your Pomeranian first especially if your little furry friend is a nibbler. Some household plants, particularly ones use around the holidays like mistletoe and poinsettias can make dogs very sick. Pomeranians in particular are susceptible as they are so tiny just a little bit can have a large effect on their systems. You can still use these plants to decorate just make sure that they are up and out of the reach of your little Pom.
With all the delicious foods out and about on the holidays everyone loves to take a little sick snack as they’re walking by the coffee table and so does your Pomeranian. Unfortunately many of these little candies and nuts that we so enjoy can be lethal to your little dog. Chocolate in particular is very bad for dogs and where Pomeranians are so small they shouldn’t eat even a little bit. It can make them very sick and in extreme cases kill them.
For the same reasons, you need to watch your guests with your Pom during holiday parties and meals. Everyone loves to give Pomeranians a little treat from their plate but if you’ve 12 gas and each one is giving them something from their plate that’s a lot of food for your little dog! Over eating isn’t good for you or your pet not to mention that people food really isn’t that good for dogs. It’s probably best to put your Palm in the other room during meal times and parties.
The Christmas tree can also be a danger for your Pomeranian. If you have a live tree the water that is kept in the well might not be so good for your dog to drink. Glass or even silk ornaments at the bottom of the tree might fall off or be knocked off by your dog and God forbid he tries to chew on the glass worth the silk unravels any ingests it. Tinsel is another problem you know what your dog eating any of that! And of course you need to be careful of lights and Garland two.
To combat this, you could put some sort of a barrier around the bottom of the trees are your dog can get at it or simply leave the bottom of the tree bear or make sure they were only Pomeranian friendly things dangling from it.
Pomeranians are very tiny and many of them are frightened easily by loud noises and strange goings-on so for this reason you want to be careful about your pets around the holidays especially if they will be loud noises from partygoers and particularrly on New Year’s Eve when they maybe firecrackers going off. Some dogs might become severely traumatized by the noise from fireworks so be sure you protect your Pomeranian accordingly.
As you well know, your Pomeranian is very sensitive so you need to be sure he doesn’t become stressed out by changes in your household routine over the holidays. Dogs can be sensitive to stress in their owners so if you are harried and stressed this can also affect your pet. Some Pomeranians may react to the stress by becoming hyper, others may simply run and hide. You want to take time during the holidays to make note of your pet’s behavior and be sure that he is not getting upset with everything that is going on.
